Wouldn't you like to keep one of these frogs?  They're a great pet.  Oscar brought this whistling tree frog and two tadpoles to school this morning.  They're hard to feed because you have to have catch the flies AND FIND THE MAGGOTS!  You wouldn't want to have too many because they may have slimy feet!

Here are some amazing photos of us.

Today is the opening of our new learning space, Ara Uenuku.  To celebrate the opening, we dressed as book characters.  We listened to stories read to us by Terry the Awapuni Librarian and Carol Mansfield.  It is an exciting day for us all.

Hannah's mum is a fire-fighter.  She came to talk to us about how to keep ourselves safe when there's a fire.  We have to get out straight away.

We really enjoyed having Sophie's puppies visit us in the classroom on Friday.

Our Puriri Moth

Mrs Palmer brought a puriri moth into our classroom today.  It had broken a leg so it couldn't fly!  It was beautiful.  The moth lay eggs into Mrs Palmer's hand.

Puriri moths hatch as caterpillars and spend a few months feeding on fungi on the forest floor  They then climb up into a tree and burrow inside, feeding on the sap of the tree.  After seven years, the moth emerges, mates, lays eggs and dies after two days.

We placed the eggs in the leaf litter of the bush behind LC 15 and hope they hatch.

We had a great exploring day today creating Scottish castles from Lego. We had a competition and Christina and Ryder won.
Do we have a new lassie in LC 7?

Can an egg float?  Yes, it can sometimes, when you add enough salt.  We did this experiment as part of our "My How Things Change" science discovery time.
We made scarecrows to chase birds and butterflies away from our garden.
Oscar brought some bubble mixture and a special shape to share with us.  We made enormous bubbles.  The mixture has peppermint for smell, glycerine to make the bubbles strong, detergent and water.
